Hurricane Sandy, my trip to Boston and a big election....which one to talk about first? Since it is the night of the big vote, lets go there first: On this very close, very controversial election night, I am worried. I'm not going to go all political here because that is just not what I do but I had to mention it because it is a big night for our country and I have some strong opinions but this is not the platform. I hate when people overtly voice their opinions without listening to the other side. I have some family members like this and it makes me a little nuts. I have always prided myself on being an open minded person and someone who considers all sides before making a decision. With that said, I hope Obama gets a second chance.
Ah Hurricane Sandy...what did you do to us? We lost power for 4 days, couldn't fill up the gas tank for 7 days and ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches too many times to count. Although I didn't sleep in my own bed for almost a week, missed a week of work, and tossed over 200 dollars worth of food, I feel very, very lucky. Yes, having no power was a major inconvenience but we managed. We didn't lose anything of substance, we stayed safe and relatively sane and we came out of it with loads of perspective. Things could be a lot worse and in fact they are for many people. I can't really complain about the state of my life when thousands of people lost their homes and loved ones. It has made me appreciate everything I have which is actually a lot compared to some. I know this perspective will not last long - it never does. Inevitably, my boss will piss me off or I'll have a horrid commute or I'll get sick and whine about how my life sucks but for now, I'll stick with being grateful.
My trip to Boston/Maine was adventurous. I had a horribly long and uncomfortable bus ride there but once I landed safely all was good. I had a great time as usual with my sisters and Mom and found some amazing bargains. We ate a lot of chocolate and spent a good amount of money so maybe we are a little fatter and broker now but it was totally worth it.
Now, its back to reality but reality is not so bad right now. Well, I'm off to vote...fingers crossed
